My philosophy on eating disorders
Recovery from an eating disorder is not a linear path. There will be many bumps along the way, but full recovery is possible. I’m not here to tell you it’s easy. It’s probably the hardest thing you’ll ever do, but if you want it, you can do it. I’m here to help guide you on your journey because there is a life worth living outside of your eating disorder.
Though it may feel like it, you are not defined by your eating disorder. During our first session together, I will conduct a comprehensive assessment and work with you to establish realistic and attainable goals for our time together.
I will help you build awareness, understand your behaviors, improve your relationships, tolerate uncomfortable emotions, learn strategies to help you cope when appropriate, and find balance in your life. We will work together to increase cognitive flexibility, accept what cannot be changed, and change what we can so your behaviors are more in line with your values.
I welcome a collaborative approach to treatment. Eating disorders are serious and life-threatening conditions that often require a team approach. I am happy to work with an existing team if you already have one. Alternatively, I will work with you to establish a multi-disciplinary team if necessary. I will gladly provide referrals for outpatient providers, including dietitians, primary care providers, and psychiatrists.
